Pressemeddelelse:

SPECTA presents a series of large carpets, each 400 x 400 cm, made by Danish artist Anders Bonnesen. Anders Bonnesen generally explores the relationship between language and images, not least the images which are common, simple symbols, and which appear as information in public space and as punctuation in texts.

The all together 10 large carpets were made in collaboration with Dansk Wilton for Anders Bonnesen’s solo exhibition “Watch Your Language” at Randers Kunstmuseum in 2021. The carpets occupied the exhibition spaces of the museum and were included as part of the exhibition as one complete art installation; A cacophony of statements, detached sentences, orders, prohibitions and pieces of information, in the form of furniture, signs, paintings – and carpets.

Anders Bonnesen’s carpets have patterns and colors that are based on well-known symbols, which, as is characteristic of Bonnesen’s work, appear both as recognizable symbols and at the same time as new and sometimes confusing patterns. Bonnesen has a strong eye for how language forms images and how images are a language, and it feels like he is massaging our attention and our focus on the common imagery.

Anders Bonnesen (DK, 1976) was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts, and has exhibited in a number of museums and institutions, including Randers Museum of Art, HEART, Holstebro Art Museum, KØS, Vejle Art Museum, Den Frie and Gl. Strand. Anders Bonnesen has done a number of public commissions, including “If you don’t know where you are going, all roads will lead you there” in Vejle, “and we will surely meet somewhere” in Hvidovre, mosaics in Lindved Park in Odense, as well as works installed at i.a. University of Copenhagen and Køge Library.
