Fernisering – Nina Sikkersoq, Lucas Duelund Meier & Nivikka Andersen: HVIS DET FOR DIG ER ANDERLEDES

torsdag 20 feb 2025 kl 17 - 20

For many Greenlandic-Danish people, identity is not a given but something constantly negotiated. Greenland and Denmark share a long history, yet their cultural norms and values are vastly different. Growing up between these worlds often means balancing expectations, confronting prejudice, and dealing with a sense of invisibility in Danish society.

Wild horses Gallery invites you to the opening of Hvis det for dig er anderledes. An exhibition that explores what it means to have roots in both Greenland and Denmark. Through photography and textile works, three artists with different backgrounds delve into the complexities of identity, belonging, and the experience of standing between two worlds. It aims to create a space for reflection and dialogue, inviting the audience into a visual conversation about navigating between two cultures.
In this exhibition, Nina Sikkersoq, Lucas Duelund Meier, and Nivikka Andersen present works that highlight these tensions from different perspectives. Some grew up in Greenland and have a strong connection to the culture, while others know it only through family stories. Some speak the language; others do not. Some feel at home in both cultures, while others never fully fit in.
Through this diversity of experiences, Hvis det for dig er anderledes seeks to give voice to the emotions tied to identity and belonging. The show is an invitation to reflect on the in-between spaces—where heritage, language, and recognition, or the absence of them, shape one’s sense of self.

“Uaajeerneq is a traditional Greenlandic mask dance that was revitalised in the 70’s -
It is a tradition dating back approximately 4,000 years. When Greenland was colonised, Uaajeerneq was forbidden by Christianity. But the tradition was maintained in secret. it’s primarily done for entertainment but also teaches important lessons about sexuality, fear and humour. Iluuna learnt ‘Uaajeerneq’ mask dance in 2019 and has since been performing to feel closer to home.“
