Hans Alf Gallery is pleased to present a pop-up exhibition by Helene Moltke-Leth in the gallery’s showroom at Tordenskjoldsgade 21. Opening on May 2, 2025, the presentation features a new series of limited works from the interdisciplinary artist’s ongoing Mirroring series, begun in 2023.
Moltke-Leth’s concept of a ’mirror-image’ is a unique aperture - squared, rectangular or circular, vertical or horizontal, each work allows for a visual and sensory experience of light, shapes, material and movement.
Each work begins with the meticulous mounting of a photographic print on a plexiglass mirror, serving as a visual base. At first glance, these images do not evoke immediate figuration; instead, they form a blurred, sensuous and soft impression. In the artist’s own words, she “paints with her camera.” Using her Leica camera to “capture motifs in nature and at night. Here I am free, no systems suppressing the instinct,” she says, “where darkness and silence open up to the deepest layers of our existence."
However, the process does not end here. With delicate precision, the artist then pours a fluid, clear resin, forming an even layer that not only seals the photograph, but also adds a mesmerising depth, vibrantly reflecting light and the surrounding space. The final touch is a handcrafted brass frame, which serves as an elegant, sculptural enclosure for each work.
The series is the result of Moltke-Leth’s longtime research, begun in the 00s with her experimental films, into light as a transformative medium that engages and affects our human perception.
