As part of this year’s Art Matter Festival, Kunsthal Charlottenborg invites you to an exclusive morning tour of the exhibition BEING SAFE IS SCARY by Istanbul-based artist Banu Cennetoğlu. Start your day with a cup of coffee and join exhibition curator and art historian Katarina Stenbeck, who will introduce the exhibition’s central themes.
In BEING SAFE IS SCARY the works in the exhibition move from global and societal issues to the more intimate and personal realm. The striking work right? comprises four enormous bouquets made up of 1,190 golden balloon letters, that spell out four articles from the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Her new work 29.01.2025 is based on Danish news media and consists of every newspaper printed and published in Denmark on 29 January 2025.Other works include critical mappings of the daily press, European migration flows and the UN Declaration of Human Rights which are juxtaposed with more introspective drawings and the artist's vast image archive to explore the overlaps between everyday life and global politics.
Here you will also get an insight into Banu Cennetoğlu’s artistic process which often entails extensive collecting, cataloguing and archiving of material, manifesting in tightly composed works with far-reaching perspectives.
