Spier Wine becomes main sponsor of Art Matter Festival
Art and wine are two things that go really well together, so it makes sense that Spier Wine has become the main sponsor of Art Matter Festival this year. However, it's about much more than wine. The sponsorship enables Art Matter to create a series of special events with small artist-run spaces that would not normally have the resources to participate in a festival.
Working with Spier means that we've been able to put some slightly more unknown and unusual artists on the radar.

“We really want to showcase the diversity of contemporary art, but finding the funds can be a challenge. Working with Spier means that we've been able to put some slightly more unknown and unusual artists on the radar in this year's Art Matter Festival. So we're really happy about that,” says Program Manager for Art Matter Festival Jan Falk Borup
Spier is known for a long and dedicated involvement with the arts, and since its foundation in 1692 has built up one of the largest collections of contemporary South African art, which can be experienced by all at Spier's winery in South Africa. Spier's commitment to contemporary art is rooted in the belief that art can help educate, inspire and encourage everyone to open up and engage with each other and our world.
"Art is woven into Spier’s very fabric - it sparks ideas, and forges connections between people. This partnership with the Art Matter Festival is invaluable, allowing us to strengthen bonds with Denmark and support the art," says Spier's Managing Director Frans Smit.
In addition to its commitment to art, Spier generally works from a long-term, regenerative perspective - and this has resulted in a wide range of initiatives from sustainable cultivation of the land to community development and entrepreneurship.
