Troels Aagaard (b.1970) lives and works in Copenhagen. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004.
Troels Aagaard works with painting as his starting point. His works integrate the sensual and unruly with structure and order, which are known from the natural sciences, where systemic principles and geometry play a supporting role. The powerful paintings explode their own framework, both concretely and conceptually, by embracing the space and context in which they are, just as the viewer's sensory apparatus is actively brought into play. Hereby, the works become both a beautiful and bodily experience. With interesting investigations and structured experiments, Troels Aagaard seeks new directions for painting.
He has exhibited solo at Galerie MøllerWitt (Aarhus/Copenhagen), Henningsen Contemporary (Copenhagen), Esbjerg Museum of Art, and Traneudstillingen (Gentofte), and he has participated in countless group exhibitions at museums and galleries, including Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), Sophienholm (Lyngby), KUNSTEN (Aalborg), Randers Museum of Art, and Fuglsang Museum of Art.
He has also created several permanent decorations at Aalborg Hospital, HOFOR (Ørestad), and the Danish Armed Forces (Ryes Barracks in Fredericia) and has received grants from, among others, the Danish Arts Foundation and the Danish Academy Council.
He has works represented in the collections of the New Carlsberg Foundation, Esbjerg Kunstmuseum, Aarhus University Hospital, and Nykredit.
